TOURNAMENT NEWS
2021 Tournament Sponsors!
Dear Friends,
The growth of this Tournament is amazing! We started in 2008 with 19 teams and a dream. Last year’s 13th annual event brought challenges with COVID-19, but we still had a successful event.
Since 2008, The Trio has donated over $175,000 to many local charities including the Matagorda Wellness Center, American Cancer Society (Matagorda County Branch), The Boys and Girls Club of Bay City, various non-profit organizations, as well as people in and around Matagorda County. The Trio has also hosted Wounded Warriors on several occasions.
Because of your support, The Trio is one of the largest and most successful bay fishing tournaments on the Texas Gulf Coast. With new goals in 2021 and celebrating 14 years, we do not plan on slowing down anytime soon.
We greatly appreciate your previous sponsorships and raffle item donations to the Texas Trio Classic Fishing Tournament and look forward to your continued support in 2021.
“The Texas Trio Classic has two simple goals. Fish For A Cure and host the best inshore fishing tournament in the state”. Your generosity helps the tournament reach its two simple goals. Thank you for making a difference!

This year's tournament will be held October 21st-23rd. Captains meeting and dinner will be Thursday the 21st, Open Division fishes Friday the 22nd, and Artificial Division fishes Saturday the 23rd.
Teams can enter both divisions.
1. This year's tournament will be a live fish weigh-in. Each team will bring up to 3 live fish to the scales (one trout, one redfish, and one flounder.) Dead fish will be allowed to be brought to the scales but will incur a 1/2 pound penalty for each fish not alive.
2. The Trio will pay top 3 places for heaviest trout, redfish, and flounder.
3.The tournament will be limited to the first 75 teams in each division.
4. This year's entry fee will be $1550 per team, and each team can have up to 5 team members. $1000 of your team entry will go to a Calcutta pot and be paid out 100% to five places. The Calcutta pot will consist of a trio (one trout, one redfish, and one flounder). Payout will be based as follows:
1st place- 50%
2nd place- 20%

3rd place- $11,250
4th place- $7,500

Bonus money will be given to the top finishing teams with combined trio weight (trout, red, flounder) for the two days. For teams to be eligible for the bonus money, teams that enter both divisions must have the same team members fishing both days. Bonus money will pay two places:

2nd place- $2000
By entering both divisions, you have the possibility of winning (if the tournament is full) $75,000 Calcutta pot money, big fish money, and bonus money!!!!
Over the next couple of months, we will be working on the final set of rules. Online entry will begin on August 15, 2021. We look forward to another great year, and don't hesitate to contact a tournament director with any questions. Thanks to all who fish and all of our sponsors who make us what we are.
THE TEXAS TRIO CLASSIC!!!
2020 Texas Trio Classic Postponement
To all fishermen and women, patrons, and friends of the Texas Trio Classic,
I hope this note finds you and your families happy and healthy during these uncertain times. After many weeks of conferring with port, city, county, and state officials, our Tournament Directors have made the difficult decision to postpone the 12th Annual Texas Trio Classic due to the continued uncertainty surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic.
The new dates for our tournament are October 22nd – October 24th.
Some of you may be wondering why we’re postponing, and why we’ve made the decision now versus waiting until later when more information could be available. In the spirit of transparency, we want to share with you a few of the considerations that ultimately drove us to make this decision sooner rather than later.
The purpose of our tournament has always been to support the health, wellness, and well-being of families in Matagorda County and surrounding areas. After conferring with experts, our team felt that holding the tournament in early June places at risk the very communities we serve and care so deeply about. In addition, we felt strongly that this decision should be made sooner rather than later to minimize the impact of the local economy where our tournament is held. Each year, local businesses in Matagorda and surrounding areas see an influx of business the week of our tournament, especially retail and vacation rentals. Deciding to postpone now allows companies the opportunity to adjust their plans and mitigate the financial losses that would almost certainly occur if we delayed the decision. Related to this, many patrons book vacation rentals that require a 30-day notice of cancellation to receive a refund of their deposit, and we wanted to allow ample time for this as well. For these reasons, we decided that now was the time to announce our decision to postpone the tournament until fall.
We hope you understand why we’ve made this decision and will join us in October for some cool weather fishing (for a change). Thank you again for your continued support of our tournament, and we’ll see you soon.
2019 Tournament Announcment
Welcome to the 2019 Texas Trio Classic. We want to thank everyone for their past support and look forward to an even better 2019 tournament. This years tournament will be held June 6th-8th at the Matagorda Harbor Pavilion. Thursday June 6th will be our Calcutta/ dinner night. Friday 7th is a rest day and Saturday 8th is fishing day.
Online registration for all teams will begin Friday March 1st at 8am. There will be only 50 teams allowed in each division( artificial and open). last years tournament filled all 100 teams in a little over 24 hours so we suggest you sign up in the AM on March 1st so you are guaranteed a spot. Online registration will be done on the website.
We are still working out the final rules for 2019 but would like to share one that is finalized.
Whichever vessel( boat or truck) you leave the Matagorda harbor from on Saturday June 8th is the vessel you must fish from and return in. Ex: You may not leave from a vehicle to drive to your boat and then fish out of your boat. If you plan to fish from a boat, you must leave the harbor by boat and return to harbor by boat.
Feel free to contact a tournament director for any questions. Contact info is on the website. Good luck to all anglers and we look forward to seeing you in June .
