2020 Texas Trio Classic

The 2020 Texas Trio Classic will be held June 11-13 at the Matagorda Harbor Pavilion. Since 2008, we have donated over $175,000 with much of that being to local charities! These donations would not be possible without you, the fishermen, and the best sponsors around! Our primary goals remain crystal clear:

1) Fish For A Cure

2) Host the best inshore fishing tournament in the state.

In 2008 we changed the game by flipping the existing complicated structures of inshore tournaments on its head. 1 Trout, 1 Redfish, 1 Flounder – the Texas Trio Classic. We came from nothing, worked hard, and with the support of the community, along with generous sponsors, built an excellent tournament. We could not be prouder of the work everyone has done together!

We are excited to change the game again!

In order to host the best inshore fishing tournament in the state, our tournament is on a quest to find out who the best all-around fishermen are. We are changing our structure to allow teams to participate in both open and artificial divisions, with added incentives to those who catch trios in both divisions. Most of all, this new format will leave no doubt about who the best on the water is!

2020 Texas Trio Classic tournament changes as follows:

1. This year's tournament will be held on two days (Friday and Saturday). The tournament will be limited to the first 75 teams in each division. One day will be artificial only, and the other will be open only. Live Facebook drawing will determine which day each division fishes.

2. This year's entry fee will be $1550 per team, and each team can have up to 5 team members. Entry fee will include all side pots (stringer side pot, heaviest flounder, redfish with most spots and trout closest to 2.5 lbs), biggest trout, and Calcutta pot (to be discussed in a bit). You are entered into every category with your one-time all-in entry

3. This year we will have our captain's meeting, dinner, and live entertainment on Thursday night. There will be no Calcutta auction. To replace it, we will be taking $1000 of your team entry, which will go to a Calcutta pot and be paid out 100 percent to five places. The Calcutta pot will consist of a trio (one trout, one redfish, and one flounder). The payout will be based as follows.

1st place - 50%

2nd place - 20%

3rd place - 15%

4th place - 10%

5th place - 5%

The number of entries in each division will determine the total payout for that division. If division fills up, with 75 teams, payouts will be:

1st place - $37,500

2nd place - $15,000

3rd place - $11,250

4th place - $7,500

5th place - $3,750

4. Teams are allowed to enter both divisions as long as they register before it is full and pay both entry fees. Bonus money will be given to the top finishing teams with combined trio weight (trout, red, flounder) for the two days. For teams to be eligible for the bonus money, teams that enter both divisions must have the same team members fishing both days. Bonus money will pay two places.

1st place - $3000

2nd place - $2000

By entering both divisions, you have the possibility of winning $75,000 if both divisions are full. This total does not include the side pot money, big trout money, or bonus money.

Over the next few months, we will be working on the final set of rules. Online entry will begin on March 1st, 2020. We wanted to go ahead and put this out there so fishermen can start digesting it.

We look forward to another great year and don't hesitate to contact a tournament director for any questions. Thanks to all who fish and sponsor who make us what we are.
